The University of Philippines Open University (UPOU) joined the international benchmarking consortium led by Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU) in the development of the Benchmarking Framework and Data Set for Online, Open, Smart, and Technology-Enhanced Higher Education. Dr.  Melinda dela Pena Bandalaria, UPOU Chancellor, supported the initiative and delegated Dr. Primo G. Garcia, Dean of the UPOU Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS) to be part of the Technical Working Group (TWG). Open Education Week is celebrated every March of each year. The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) is one with the world in celebrating this event as part of its  advocacy for open education. The University of the Philippines placed 69th among the top 634 higher educational institutions (HEIs) of Asia in the latest rankings released by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). The QS Asia University Rankings 2021 [https://www.topuniversities.com/university-rankings/asian-university-rankings/2021], where UP placed three ranks higher than in the previous year’s edition and emerged among the top 11 percent of Asian HEIs, was released today, November 25, 2020.
