The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) participated in the UP Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (OVPAA) Workshop on Data-Driven Research Impact in collaboration with Clarivate, Libtech Source Philippines Inc., and the UP Diliman University Library. The two-day event was held on March 3-4, 2025, at the UP National Engineering Center, Junio Hall, UP Diliman, Quezon City.
Representing UPOU in the event were Dr. Myra Oruga, Assistant to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs for Research, Ms. Marian Tatlonghari, member of the Research Committee, Asst. Prof. Joel De Castro, and Mr. Michael John Gomez from the UPOU Quality Assurance Office.
The workshop aimed to enhance strategic research planning and collaboration by equipping participants with data-driven insights and analytics tools. The event provided hands-on activities and group discussions to improve research performance evaluation, faculty recruitment, and institutional decision-making. It also introduced participants to the Web of Science (WoS) platform, emphasizing its role in evaluating research impact, identifying collaboration opportunities, and optimizing research strategies.
Key speakers included Mr. Inn Beng Chng, Government Strategy and Engagement Lead at Clarivate, who highlighted the importance of data-driven insights for research planning and evaluation in alignment with UP’s core missions. Ms. Chng Dju-Lyn, a Strategic Customer Senior Success Consultant at Clarivate, elaborated on how Web of Science and its tools, such as Journal Normalized Citation Impact (JNCI) and Category Normalized Citation Impact (CNCI), can help institutions assess research performance and collaboration networks.
As a globally recognized research database, Web of Science provides access to high-quality, peer-reviewed publications across various disciplines. The University of the Philippines (UP) acknowledges Web of Science-indexed journals as a valuable resource for faculty and researchers. Publications in WoS-indexed journals are considered for the UP Scientific Productivity System Award and the International Publication Award (IPA).
UPOU remains committed to leveraging data-driven insights to enhance research impact and strengthen strategic partnerships, in alignment with the UP System Research Agenda.
