UPOU’s P.A.W. Project Launched to Safeguard Animal Welfare

On 05 April 2024, the Ugnayan ng Pahinungod UPOU, in collaboration with the Campus Development and Maintenance Office (CDMO), launched the Protecting Animal Welfare (PAW) Project. The initiative was conducted at the UPOU CCDL and was attended by staff representing various university units and offices.

The event kicked-off with an informative session led by Ms. Carla Alyssa Cabrera, the project’s current focal person, providing attendees with a thorough understanding of the P.A.W. Project’s objectives and operational mechanisms. Ms. Chiara Karenina Manuel, co-founder of CATS of UPLB, also shared insights into effective community animal management practices, drawing from her organization’s experiences and offering practical advice applicable to the UPOU context. Shedding light on topics such as rabies awareness, common animal diseases, and holistic wellness approaches for community animals, Dr. Marco Reyes from the College of Veterinary Medicine UPLB facilitated the final session.

The PAW Project aims to implement various activities geared towards ensuring a consistent supply of food and facilitating regular health check-ups for campus animals. The project also plans to establish partnerships with different organizations and agencies that have the same advocacy for the implementation of these activities and encourage more people to care for our community animals.  This underscores the importance of promoting harmonious coexistence between humans and animals in one community.
