On its 25th year, the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) will hold its very first virtual graduation ceremony. This graduation is also UPOU’s 24th Commencement Exercises which will be held on 05 December 2020.
The 1st Virtual Graduation will carry the theme,“Revolutionizing Disruptions for Excellence and Equity,” consistent with its 25th anniversary theme. This is very timely considering the disruptions and challenges the world is facing because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the circumstances that the country is going through.
Senator Joel Villanueva will be the commencement speaker for this virtual ceremony.
Four hundred and twelve candidates have been approved by the UP Board of Regents for graduation for the 1st Trimester and Semester, 2nd Trimester and Semester, and 3rd Trimester/Midyear Term of the Academic Year 2019-2020. Sixty-one successfully completed UPOU’s undergraduate programs — 24 from the Associate in Arts program (AA), 23 from the Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia Studies (BAMS) and 14 from the Bachelor of Education Studies (BES).
Three hundred fifty-one successfully completed all the requirements from the 25 graduate programs of UPOU. These include the Graduate Certificate in Distance Education (GCDE), Diploma in and Master of Language and Literacy Education (D/MALLE), Diploma in Mathematics Teaching (DMT), Diploma in Social Studies Education (DSSE), Diploma in Science Teaching (DST), Master of Distance Education (MDE), and the Doctor of Philosophy in Education (PHD in Educ) from the Faculty of Education. It also includes the Diploma in Computer Science (DCS), Master of Development Communication (MDC), Master of Information Systems (MIS) and Doctor of Communication (DComm) from the Faculty of Information and Communication Studies. The graduate programs also include the Graduate Certificate in and Master of ASEAN Studies (GC/MAS), Diploma in and Master of Environment and Natural Resources Management (D/MENRM), Diploma in and Master of International Health (D/MIH), Diploma in Land Use Planning (DLUP), Diploma in Land Valuation Management (DLVM), Diploma in Research and Development Management (DRDM), Diploma in and Master of Social Work (D/MSW), Master of Arts in Nursing (MAN), and Master of Public Management (MPM) from the Faculty of Management and Development Studies.
This year’s commencement exercises have 11 graduates on the Chancellor’s List with a GWA of 1.00 to 1.14, and 22 graduates on the Dean’s List with a GWA of 1.15 to 1.24. In addition, there are seven candidates who will be graduating with latin honors.
UPOUs first Virtual Graduation will start streaming at 9 o’clock in the morning on UPOU’s Website (www.upou.edu.ph/home) and official Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/UPOpenUniversity). Recognition activities will be held by Faculty Offices after the ceremony.
