The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) continues to ensure quality higher education as it participated in the 12th Assessor Training Workshop for AUN-QA Programme Assessment (Tier 2 Training) on 16-22 March 2023 at the De La Salle University, Philippines. This seven-day event serves as the second level of training for those who have completed the AUN-QA Training Course for Accomplishing Programme Assessment (Tier 1 Training).

Among the 36 participants from five countries are Asst. Prof. Mari Anjeli Crisanto, Director of UPOU Quality Assurance Office (QAO), and Prof. Consuelo Habito, Quality Assurance (QA) Officer of UPOU Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS). Led by AUN-QA trainers, including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tan Kay Chuan and Prof. Dr. Shahrir Abdullah, the participants worked with a real self-assessment report (SAR) and observed a live programme assessment. The training workshop specifically equipped them to:

  • demonstrate competences in conducting an AUN-QA programme assessment;
  • possess knowledge of QA in ASEAN county Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs);
  • prepare for an AUN-QA programme assessment;
  • conduct an AUN-QA desktop assessment;
  • formulate questions for AUN-QA programme assessment interviews;
  • apply the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) approach in an AUN-QA programme assessment;
  • conduct a site assessment, including stakeholder meetings and interviews, site tours, document reviews, presentations, etc.; and
  • produce an AUN-QA assessment report and presentation.

The participation of Director Crisanto and Prof. Habito in this training workshop is part of the preparations of UPOU for its first batch of external quality assurance (EQA), assessing 23 out of 36 degree programs of the University. Through these quality assurance initiatives, UPOU shall continue to provide quality programs in the field of open and distance e-learning (ODeL).
