UPOU's Galeria Sinag showcases wood carvings and paintings of leading Paete artists.The University of the Philippines Open University is hosting an art exhibit entitled "Silip Paete: Sculpture and Painting Exhibition" at UPOU's Galeria Sinag at the UPOU Community Hub. The exhibit features feature salable wood carvings and paintings done by the Banhay Kulay Paete Artist Guild.
The opening ceremony was held on February 18, 2016, 6:00 pm at the UPOU Community Hub. Dr. Grace Javier Alfonso, Chancellor of UP Open University, delivered the welcome remarks, thanking everyone for their participation and their support and appreciation for the local artists. She hopes that gallery viewers will be able to see and realize the stories and inspirations behind the beautifully and intricately carved pieces of wood and paintings. "Through these artworks, may we realize that Filipino artists are truly gifted and are more than capable to produce obras which are truly world-class."
Mr. Joseph Bañez also gave a short message about the Banhay Kulay Paete Artist Guild, which has grown from just a small group of friends and relatives. He introduced all the artists whose works are included in the exhibit— Angelito Baldemor, Lell Baldemor, Joseph Bañez, Jayson Bañez, Danilo Cads, Bayani Rey Acala, Glenn Cagandahan, Phaern Afurong, Edgar Driodoco, Ernesto Cagayat, Oddette Monfero, Christine Aquilo, Melecio Baysauli, Ronnel Cainto, and Edward Dave.
The ceremonial opening of the exhibit was led by Chancellor Alfonso and Mr. Bañez. After the viewing of the exhibit, cocktails were served to all the guests.
This event is organized by the UPOU's Cultural Committee headed by Dr. Primo Garcia in cooperation with the Banhay Kulay Paete Artist Guild and the UPOU Foundation, Inc. Dr. Consuelo Habito served as the exhibit's curator.
