UPOU OPA Conducts Benchmarking Visit to Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU)

The UPOU Office of Public Affairs (OPA) visited the Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) for a benchmarking activity on 12 November 2024 in Nonthaburi, Thailand. The representatives from UPOU OPA were led by OPA Director, Dr. Myra Almodiel. They learned about the brief history and development of STOU through a visit to the King Prajadhipok and Queen Rambhai Barni Documentation Center, exploring the journals and books exclusive only for the access of the King of Thailand, the life, works, and important events during King Rama VII’s reign.

The team also visited the university’s open library, which provides students access to various educational resources. Additionally, they explored notable facilities, including the University Symbolic Pavilion and the Agricultural Center, where research laboratories for students are housed.

As the public service unit of the University, the Office of Public Affairs is tasked with producing information materials, providing information services, coordinating information, and managing media and public relations. To enhance its services, the office continuously learns from other institutions, adopting best practices for storing information, preserving the University’s knowledge, and effectively serving its constituents– the students and the general public. The benchmarking activity with STOU provided UPOU OPA insights about resources that UPOU could further highlight as part of its publicity efforts for the university.

Aligned with RA 10650, the Open Distance Learning Act, and its dedication to Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) No. 4 (Quality Education) and No. 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), UPOU serves as a vital catalyst for collaboration among diverse institutions and organizations. These initiatives aim to provide inclusive, high-quality education while driving collective advancements in the education sector.
