The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) Director of Information and Communication Technology Development Office (ICTDO), and Assistant Professor, Dr. Reinald Adrian D. Pugoy, was engaged in a webinar entitled, “Intelligent Insights: Unlocking and Harnessing AI in Educational Research” as part of Philippine Normal University (PNU)- Educational Policy Research and Development Center’s (EPRDC) program. This was held online, via Zoom on 26 July 2023.

This webinar, which was participated in by staff members from the PNU-EPRDC, aims to unlock the potential of AI in education research in terms of identifying gaps in the literature, collecting data, and analyzing information. Dr. Pugoy, whose expertise is in line with educational technology, served as a resource speaker for the event and shared his insights regarding the said topic.

AI is becoming a tool in education, opening up new options, and reshaping the learning experience for both students and educators. AI is a driver for beneficial change in the education system. However, one must ensure that the utilization of AI in education is accompanied by responsible and ethical standards, such as data privacy protection and the preservation of human involvement in the learning process.

Through this initiative, the UPOU successfully contributed to upgrading the quality of the country’s educational system by developing innovative instructional strategies and technologies and sharing these with other colleges and universities through cooperative programs. As the system embraces AI’s potential, educators and students must remain committed to using it to create a more inclusive, accessible, and successful education for all.
