The Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS) at UP Open University (UPOU) and the UP Manila College of Nursing (UPCN) recently held a Final Workshop and Class Kick-Off for the Nursing Education (NE) Microcredentials on 21 June 2024 at UPCN.

This event marks a significant milestone in the ongoing collaboration between UPOU-FMDS and UPCN to develop a joint Master’s degree (MNE) program aimed at addressing the increasing need for qualified nurse educators. This initiative supports several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): SDG 17: Partnership for the Goals, SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, and ultimately contributes to SDG 1: No Poverty and SDG 5: Gender Equality through enhanced educational opportunities.

Asst. Prof. Ria Valerie D. Cabanes, Chair of the UPOU MAN Program, opened the workshop by providing an update on the status of the microcredentials and setting expectations for the day. She outlined the objectives of the workshop and kick-off: to present the final course packs for each microcredential course, discuss effective strategies for facilitating the development and delivery of these courses, and develop a comprehensive plan for evaluating the courses.

Faculty members from UPOU and UPCN collaborated to finalize the course packs, presenting their findings in a plenary session. Asst. Prof. Arnold B. Peralta, Head of the UPCN Teaching Program, led the course pack evaluations. Dr. Sheila R. Bonito, Dean of UPCN, concluded the event with an announcement of the evaluation plans, marking the official start of the new NE microcredential courses.
