The Faculty of Education (FEd) of the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) conducted the Recognition Rites and Ceremony for its batch 2022 graduates on 9 December 2022, at 8:00 a.m. at the Centennial Center for Digital Learning (CCDL) Auditorium, UPOU Headquarters, Los Baños, Laguna.

Asst. Prof. Louanne Mae L. Calipayan hosted the event. Dr. Ricardo T. Bagarinao, FEd Dean, welcomed the graduates via video message. Dr. Liel Gem Villaver-Pondara gave an inspirational message to the attendees, while Dr. Arman DC. Santos shared some encouraging words as a UPOU graduate student.

The graduates from the different FEd programs were individually recognized and awarded their Certificates of Completion. Those who graduated with Latin honors and made the Dean’s List and Chancellor’s List were also awarded medals, while those who engaged in volunteer work for the university also received Pahinungod pins.

After the awarding ceremony, Ms. Ma. Carmen L. De Castro, who graduated cum laude from the Bachelor of Education Studies (BES) program, shared her challenging but interesting journey while completing her UP education. As a mother, she considered raising a child equivalent to obtaining a UP degree.

The batch of 2022 graduates came from the various FEd programs, namely, Associate in Arts (AA), Bachelor of Education Studies (BES), Diploma in Mathematics Teaching (DMT), Diploma in Social Studies Education (DSSE), Diploma in Science Teaching (DST), Graduate Certificate in Distance Education (GCDE), Master of Distance Education (MDE), Diploma in Language and Literacy Education (DLLE), and Doctor of Philosophy in Education (Ph.D.).

The celebration concluded with the singing of the UP hymn, UP Naming Mahal. The election of the alumni officers for the FEd Chapter was also administered. Ms. Mia Marci, president of the UPOU Alumni Foundation Inc. (UPOUAFI), led the selection process of the new set of officers for the academic year 2023-2024. The graduates then proceeded to the UPOU Main Building, where snacks and buffet lunches were served.
