Dr. Maria Ana T. Quimbo, an affiliate faculty member of the the Faculty of Education (FEd), University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) is the newly appointed Program Chair of the Doctor of Philosophy in Education program effective 1 September 2018.

Dr. Quimbo previously held the PhD Program Chair position from June 2010 – May 2011. As the Program Chair, she is responsible in providing assistance to the Dean in the program management and development and in coordinating program faculty and student concerns. Currently, the Faculty is offering Doctor of Philosophy in Education with majors in Biology Education, Chemistry Education, Mathematics Education and Physics Education. Dr. Quimbo started at UPOU in 1994 as University Researcher IV. In 2005, she acted as senior lecturer and online study tutor and in 2011, Dr. Quimbo was appointed as an affiliate Associate Professor of FEd and handled educational foundation and research courses under the degree programs of the Faculty. Since 2012, she has been a member of Doctoral Comprehensive Examination Committee for Science Education and the Advisory Committee for the PhD and MA programs. In 2018, she also served as course proponent of Bachelor of Education Studies (BES), one of the undergraduate programs of FEd.

Dr. Quimbo finished her Doctor of Philosophy in Education at UP Diliman and had her Master of Science in Extension Education degree from UP Los Baños where she also took her undergraduate degree, Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics.

Dr. Quimbo has a current appointment as UP Scientist I since 2014 and is also a recipient of the One UP Professorial Chair Grant for Outstanding Instruction and Research for 2016-2018. She has published book chapters and research studies cited in various journals and research publications such as Asia Life Sciences – The Asian International Journal of Life Sciences, Asian Journal of Distance Education, Philippine Journal of Distance Learning, among others. She also attended conferences both local and abroad. Her research interests include education policy and curriculum studies, e-learning, community education and development, institution developments, extension education and educational psychology.
