UPOU Faculty Members Join UP Public Service Summit

Eight faculty members of the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) participated in the UP Public Service Summit, held from 30 to 31 May 2024 at the ITDC Conference Room, Vidal Tan Hall, UP Diliman, Quezon City. 

The UPOU delegates representing different Faculty of Studies and unit offices include Dean of the Faculty of Education Dr. Charisse T. Reyes, University Registrar Luisa A. Gelisan, Office of Public Affairs (OPA) Director Dr. Myra C. Almodiel, Office of Gender Concerns (OGC) Director Dr. Finaflor F. Taylan, Ugnayan ng Pahinungod Office (OUP) Dr. Quennie R. Ridulme, Center for Open and Digital Teaching and Learning – Education Media Production Unit Deputy Director Lexter J. Mangubat, All UP Academic Employees Union – UPOU Chapter Vice President for Faculty Roda Tajon, and Asst. Prof. Regina Mendoza-Armiendo, Faculty Member of the Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS).

Dr. Myra C. Almodiel and Dr. Finaflor Taylan, served as one of the facilitators, while Asst. Prof. Roda L. Tajon served as the Master of Ceremonies on the second day of the summit.

The UP Public Service Summit was organized by the UP Padayon Public Service Office, the Office of the Faculty Regent, and the All UP Academic Employees Union (AUPAEU). It was held in partnership with the Office of the President, the Office of the Vice President for Public Affairs, and the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs. This summit was held to convene stakeholders across UP CUs to engage in a discourse on public service from their distinct perspectives, facilitate the sharing of public service values, experiences, and practices, promote collaboration among various public service institutions and organizations within UP, and address the institutionalization of public service in existing arrangements and processes, including the upcoming faculty merit promotion tool and tenure.

The two-day summit is the first in a series of consultative meetings about public service and was attended by about 60 representatives from the Padayon and Pahinungod Offices of UP CUs, Vice Presidents for Faculty of Academic Unions, and representatives from CU offices involved in service learning and those involved in community engagements.

The University of the Philippines Open University joins the entire UP System in mourning the passing of Dr. Francisco "Dodong" Nemenzo, Jr., who served as the 18th President of the University of the Philippines from 1999 to 2005. A political scientist, professor, and radical educator, he was known for his strong nationalist and anti-imperialist views and his lifelong commitment to the University.Dr. Francisco “Dodong” Nemenzo, who served as the 18th president of the University of the Philippines (UP) from 1999 to 2005, passed away on Dec. 19, 2024, at age 89.
