Dr. Ricardo T. Bagarinao, Dean of the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) Faculty of Education (FEd), has been chosen by Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) Asia to receive the Education Leadership Award at the 9th Asia’s Education Excellence Awards, held on 31 July to 1 August 2018 in Le Meridien Singapore, Sentosa.Asia’s Education Excellence Awards is given to honor people who surpassed the level of excellence on their work, have set an example of being a role model and an exemplary leader. The aim of the award is also to recognize individuals and institutions who believe in making a difference and believe that excellence can lead to shaping the destinies of the future of the world. Dr. Bagarinao was given the Education Leadership Award to celebrate his outlook, work and contribution to society and change.Dr. Bagarinao has a degree in Doctor of Philosophy from UP Los Baños School of Environmental Science and Management. An educator and public servant, Prof. Bagarinao has taught at UP since he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology degree from UP Cebu College. He also serves as a trainer, a consultant, a tutor and a mentor to his junior faculty and staff. In 2015, he was conferred the prestigious UPOU Gawad Chancellor for Outstanding Faculty award.He has served different sectors of the society by leading various research projects related to environmental management. These researches were presented and published, which earned Dr. Bagarinao awards such as the Outstanding Filipino Research Leader in 2012 at the World Research Festival, the UP International Publications Award yearly since 2010, and the UP Scientist I title for the years 2013-2015 and 2016-2018.Dr. Bagarinao served as Program Coordinator for the Master of Science in Environmental Studies program of UP Cebu. When he transferred to UPOU, he was appointed Program Chair for the PhD in Education program for three years before he served UPOU as the University Registrar for six years. While handling administrative positions at UPOU, he also served as chair of different committees for the university. Besides his work with UPOU, Dr. Bagarinao has also served as officer of the Philippine Society for the Study of Nature (PSSN), the SEARCA Fellows Association in the Philippines and the Regional SEARCA Fellows Association.When asked about all his achievements, Dr. Bagarinao states that “I am not really expecting them to come.
