The Philippines Communication Society (PCS) has released the newest issue of the PCS Review with the theme Digital Communication Culture and University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) has made a big contribution. UP Professor Emeritus and Former Chancellor of UPOU, Dr. Grace Javier Alfonso, is the guest editor for the 2020 issue as she curated seven articles on Digital Communication Culture. The issue also features a foreword from UPOU Chancellor, Dr. Melinda dela Peña Bandalaria, an interview with Dr. Jean Saludadez, Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration of the UPOU, and an article co-authored by Jomar D. Redubla, UPOU Doctor of Communication Student.
Dr. Alfonso shares in the Editor’s Note that “This issue of PCS Review on Digital Communication Culture is essential in studying the ever- fast-changing communication and media environment. This issue contributes to the need for research models, approaches, methodologies, and theorizing that are responsive, agile, and open to knowing authentic voices that have been silenced and drowned by closed systems of thought.” Dr. Bandalaria, on the other hand, shares how this particular “issue of PCS Review on Digital Communication Culture provides readers with glimpses of the different facets of digital communication as practiced by the different sectors of the society” in her foreword.
The article of Mr. Redubla titled “Calls to action: The process of legislative response and action formation through call-out discourses on Facebook and Twitter” , talks about the use of social media as a persuasive tool, “not only through correctness but also through the discourse and arise from expressed opinions, ideas, and ideologies.”
The interview with Dr. Jean Saludadez was authored by Asst. Prof. Maria Angelica “Rica” D. Abad of the University of the Philippines Diliman Extension Program in Pampanga. During the interview she shared about the book chapter she submitted for publication on Communication as Constitutive of Organization (CCO). She also explained in detail about the Functional School of Organization Communication, Interpretive Critical School of Organization Communication, and Communication as Constitutive of Organization.

The Philippine Communication Society was incorporated in June 1987 with a mission to “bridge the gap between industry and academe in the dynamic field of communication.” As the culture of knowledge-sharing continues to expand, PCS will be the “key advisor for governments, industries and academe in matters pertaining to communication and media,” by innovating in research, training, and practice of the dynamic field both in national and international levels while encouraging partnerships and collaborations with leaders worldwide. They conduct and organize forums and conferences for communication educators, students, and media practitioners. They publish annual PCS Reviews to highlight major communication research studies that will contribute to “the development and enrichment of the communication discipline” in the Philippines.
