The University of the Philippines- Open University (UPOU) faculty members conducted a two-day eLearning Capacity-Building Training-Workshop on Open and Distance e-Learning (ODeL) for the Civil Service Institute (CSI) on 06-07 July 2023. The training workshop, which was held at CSC Central Office, Diliman Quezon City,  aimed to discuss the theories, principles, and processes in course content development and educational materials creation and production.

Asst. Prof. Juvy Lizette M. Gervacio, Program Chair for UPOU Master of Public Management prorags,  led the first-day activity which focused on Content/Module Development. She tackled the theories, principles, and processes in developing learning materials. The highlight of the second-day activity was the e-Learning Manual Development where  Asst. Prof. Luisa Gelisan, UPOU University Registrar,  and  Asst. Prof. Ria Cabanes, Program Chair for the Master of Arts in Nursing program, delved into principles and guidelines for creating a video learning material. 

As a result, the participants from CSI were able to discuss the theories, principles, and processes involved in developing modules for the ODeL modality and create sample modules based on their pre-selected topics. They were also able to create components of course package, such as course guides, study guides, learning activities, and learning assessments for sample modules, as well as video learning material in two areas discussed. 

Through this event, the UPOU was able to spread knowledge in the field of open and distance e-learning (ODeL) and assist educational institutions as part of UPOU’s mandate under the Republic Act 10650 (Open Distance Learning Law).

The University of the Philippines Open University joins the entire UP System in mourning the passing of Dr. Francisco "Dodong" Nemenzo, Jr., who served as the 18th President of the University of the Philippines from 1999 to 2005.
