Office of Gender Concerns conducts seminar on breast health care for women in UPOU and the Los Baños community. The UPOU Office of Gender Concerns, in cooperation with the UP Manila Ugnayan ng Pahingungod and the Philippine Foundation for Breast Care, Inc. (PFBCI), conducted a Breast Health Seminar at the UPOU CCDL Auditorium on 07 May 2015.
The seminar was intended to provide information on breast care and breast cancer to the women of UPOU and the Local Government Unit of Los Baños, Laguna. Dr. Ma. Lourdes Cortez, PFBCI President, spoke on the proper way of caring for the breasts and discussed the factors that increase the risk of breast cancer in women. She led the participants in the proper way of conducting self-examination of the breast, emphasizing that a regular breast exam is needed 7-10 days after the woman's first day of period. In this way, tumors and other abnormalities can be detected early.
Dr. Cortez also briefed the participants about the role of PFBCI in helping women detect, diagnose, treat and recover from breast cancer. In the afternoon, a free breast exam and screening was done at the UPOU Learners' Hall. Volunteers from the UPM Ugnayan ng Pahinungod were Dr. Lunalinda Luz, DDM, Ms. Melanie Talentom, Ms. Daisy de Guzman, and Ms. Charito Bugnot.
Asst. Prof. Finaflor Taylan, Director of the UPOU Office of Gender Concerns, delivered the closing remarks, wishing everyone an excellent breast health from hereon. (Anna Cañas-Llamas)
