University of the Philippines (UP) Constituent Units (CUs) lead Webometrics Web Ranking in the Philippines this January 2020. UP Open University ranks 22nd in the country and 5th among UP units. The University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman and De La Salle University (DLSU) Manila have topped the newest Webometrics world ranking for the best quality online content, web presence, and impact among educational institutions in the Philippines.
The Webometrics Ranking of World’s Universities released by the Cybermetrics Lab at the end of January 2020 revealed UP Diliman, the flagship campus of the University of the Philippines System, in first rank for the Philippines with a World Rank of 1,272 out of over 20,000 universities worldwide. UP Diliman holds the Asian Rank of 301 out of 14,367 schools in the region.
Seven constituent universities of the UP System, which itself was ranked 4th for the Philippines with a world rank of 2747th, made it to the Top 40 schools:
- UP Diliman, 1st
- UP Manila, 5th
- UP Los Baños, 8th
- UP Mindanao, 19th
- UP Open University, 22nd
- UP Visayas, 25th
- UP Baguio, 40th
DLSU Manila, the main campus for De La Salle Philippines (DLSP), came in second place with a world ranking of 1,783 and an Asian Rank of 475. Six DLSP schools made it to the Top 100 list:
- DLSU Manila, 2nd
- De La Salle Lipa, 44th
- DLSU-Dasmariñas, 46th
- De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, 57th
- University of St. La Salle Bacolod, 68th
- De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute, 87th
Only 277 Philippine universities made it to the world ranking for web presence that accurately reflect their activities.
The latest 2020 Edition of the Webometrics Ranking of World’s Universities, published on January 28, ranked the world’s higher education institutions for Presence, Impact, Openness, and Excellence.
The Cybermetrics Lab, a research group of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones CientĂficas (CSIC) in Spain, says the ranking aims to promote publication of web content among educational institutions and support open access initiatives, electronic access to scientific publications, and to other academic material.
UP and DLSU also led the Filipino universities in the Transparent Ranking of Top Universities by Citations in Top Google Scholar profiles released earlier in January.
UP and La Salle were the only two schools listed in the Asia Pacific Times Higher Education World University Rankings of 2019.
The University of the Philippines broke into the world’s Top 500 schools in 2019, besting Harvard, Cambridge, and Oxford in the THE health research rankings.
De La Salle University is the lone Filipino school in the inaugural THE Impact Rankings which measure a university’s success in delivering the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals targets.
