As part of its goal to promote healthy and productive ‘micro-breaks,’ the Ugnayan ng Pahinungód UP Open University (UPOU) collaborated with the UPOU Office of Public Affairs to conduct a Mobile Photography Workshop via Zoom on 26 November 2024.
This virtual workshop is the fourth episode of the Stress Reduction Technique Series (SRTS)—a continuing series of video demonstrations to relieve stress through various simple, fun, and artistic activities and provide relevant opportunities for social connection, friendship, and support among interested participants. The SRTS is one of the services offered in the Kalinga at Yakap (KaYa) App, a mental health and wellness application that promotes the overall well-being of the UPOU community.
This SRTS episode featured Ms. Anna Mhari Duria, a photojournalist and a staff member of the Office of Public Affairs. She discussed the advantages and limitations of Mobile Photography, and highlighted important mobile camera features that the audience should consider when taking photos.
Ms. Duria also emphasized how Mobile Photography promotes mindfulness and stress reduction. She shared the stories behind the pictures she captured and encouraged the audience to go on a “photo walk” to relieve stress and practice being in the “now.”
The Ugnayan ng Pahinungód Project Staff and webinar host Naomi Jean Unlayao moderated the Open Forum segment of the webinar. During the segment, Ms. Duria expounded on the importance of asking for consent from the photo subjects and shared how she usually asks for consent from her subjects.
Around 45 participants across the Philippines attended the virtual workshop including the young journalists from the Ferdinand E Marcos Senior High School. The recording of the Mobile Photography Workshop will be publicly available on the KaYa website and application (https://kaya.upou.edu.ph/).
