The UPOU’s Finance Team participates in the 2nd International Conference of Digital Business Society and Economy (ICDBSE 2024)

The UPOU Finance Team participated in the 2nd International Conference of Digital Business Society and Economy (ICDBSE 2024) hosted by Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) from 13-15 November 2024 in Nonthaburi, Thailand. Themed “Innovation and Technology towards Sustainability and Lifelong Learning,” the event aspires to gather researchers, practitioners, and experts worldwide to exchange knowledge and insights on digital business and technology. The conference also served as “a platform for institutions and thought leaders to drive meaningful dialogue around leveraging technology for sustainable development and lifelong learning, reinforcing its global relevance.”

The UPOU Finance Team presented in the Special Session titled “Financial Innovation and Technology towards Sustainability in the Context of Open Universities: The UPOU and STOU Experiences.” In this session, the STOU shared the innovations that they are doing in relation to Budget, Accounting/Finance, and Procurement.  The UPOU Finance Team, on the other hand, using the framework “Digital Maturity of Open Universities,” shared its experiences in Digital Management, Digital Innovation, Digital Governance, and Digital Transformation in the area of Financial Management. It highlighted the significance of financial technology and governance in enhancing sustainability and operational efficiency within open universities.

The UPOU Team was led by the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, Dr. Jean A. Saludadez,  and composed of the heads and staff of the Budget, Accounting and Cash Offices, namely  Ms. Amalia G. Perez, Mr. John Benvers A. Malabanan and Mr. Michael P. Lagaya respectively, and  Ms. Era Winzelle D. Cruz, and Ms. Sheila Marie Bustos; Ms. Rosemarie Aquino, Ms. Janet Robledo, Mr. Raymond Lapis, and Mr. Aljay Buenviaje and Ms. Filipina Bautista-Pullian respectively.

The University of the Philippines Open University joins the entire UP System in mourning the passing of Dr. Francisco "Dodong" Nemenzo, Jr., who served as the 18th President of the University of the Philippines from 1999 to 2005. A political scientist, professor, and radical educator, he was known for his strong nationalist and anti-imperialist views and his lifelong commitment to the University.Dr. Francisco “Dodong” Nemenzo, who served as the 18th president of the University of the Philippines (UP) from 1999 to 2005, passed away on Dec. 19, 2024, at age 89.
