True to its mission of reaching out to underserved communities, the Ugnayan ng Pahinungod UPOU, in collaboration with the Office of the Staff Regent (OSR), and the All UP Workers Union (AUPWU) Diliman and Open University Chapters, conducted an ICT Literacy training program among the youth of the Dumagat Indigenous People community from Rodriguez, Rizal, last 8 and 15 October 2022.
This two-day training aims to capacitate the Dumagat youth of Rodriguez, Rizal in their computer proficiency and information and technology literacy skills that would be beneficial for their future career endeavors.
Two separate training sessions were conducted on 8 and 15 October 2022 at MC Theater, UPOU-DICT Building, C.P. Garcia Ave., Diliman, Quezon City. The event was attended by 21 participants on Day 1, and 19 participants on Day 2. Thirteen (13) volunteers from Pahinungod UPOU served as hands-on tutors for the participants during the training.
Ms. Katrine Ames Gito, Pahinungod volunteer and UPOU PhD in Education (Major in Mathematics Education) student, served as the resource speaker for Day 1. She discussed and demonstrated to the participants the basics of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Powerpoint, Excel).
During the Day 2 of the training, Ms. Yrelle Mae Lleva, University Extension Associate from the Faculty of Information and Communication Studies (FICS), tackled how to use the Internet, create email addresses, and navigate the Google Workspace.
Mr. Jossel Ebesate, All UP Workers Union National President, Mr. Clodualdo Cabrera, All UP Workers Union – Diliman Chapter President, and members of the All UP Workers Union – Open University Chapter led by Ms. Agnes Mejia, President, were also present during the Day 1 of the training. The chieftain of the Dumagat tribe was also able to join during the second day of the ICT training.
Asst. Prof. Queenie Roxas-Ridulme, Director of Ugnayan ng Pahinungod UPOU, emphasized in her closing remarks, that the office aims to continue on implementing programs with the IP communities as beneficiaries.
