The UP Open University (UPOU) OPEN Talk features topic in Sikolohiyang Pilipino sa Wika, Panitikan, at Midya in the context of secondary and higher education and how to effectively participate mindfully and enrich Philippine psychology through language, literature, and media.

This OPEN Talk episode, held on 16 June 2023,  was in collaboration with the Pambansang Samahan ng Sikolohiyang Pilipino (PSSP) with experts in the field of sociology and media: Dr. Alwin C. Aguirre, Professor, Department of Broadcasting, UP Diliman, and Asst. Professor Charmaine P. Galano, Department of Psychology, UP Diliman.

According to Asst. Prof. Galano, psychology is used as a framework for other disciplines. Such frameworks can be utilized in language studies, even in leadership, thus denoting it as an important field not only in psychology per se but also in other fields.  Dr. Aguirre, on the other hand, shared that there are already many attempts in interdisciplinary fields pertaining to psychology and its use. While there are said attempts, there are very few that integrate psychology in other specialties because of the lack of anchor that expands the subject towards interdisciplines.

In the context of language, literature, and media, Philippine psychology makes systematic approaches towards these topics, shared Asst. Prof. Golano. Dr. Aguirre also shared that systematic psychology should be prioritized to ensure its broader development and application especially in High School and College.

The webinar is moderated by Dr. Jayson D. Petras from the Departamento ng Filipino at Panitikan ng Pilipinas, UP Diliman, and President of PSSP. You may still view the full version of the event via UPOU Networks Facebook Page.
