The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) is set to open another set of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) on Business Analytics and ODeL Teacher Accreditation on 1 October, 2018. The MOOCs will be offered through the Massive Online Distance e-Learning (MODeL) platform.

The courses "Introduction to Descriptive Analytics" and "Unsupervised Learning Methodologies" will run from 1 to 20 October, 2018. "Introduction to Prescriptive Analytics and Operations Research Overview," on the other hand, will start on 1 October and will end on 26 October. The three MOOCs are under the Business Analytics Program. Meanwhile, reruns of the MOOCs under the ODeL Teacher Accreditation program, "Assessment of Learning in ODeL," and "Technology in ODeL" will start on 1 October and will end on 4 November 2018.

"Introduction to Descriptive Analytics" will tackle data and data sets, summary statistics, different types of sampling, and ethics in descriptive analytics. "Unsupervised Learning Methodologies" will introduce the students on the fundamental ideas, concepts, and techniques associated with predictive analytics and its framework; basic concepts and methods on pre-processing; and finally, unsupervised learning. The course, "Introduction to Prescriptive Analytics and Operations Research Overview" will focus on prescriptive analytics and will also discuss the relationships between Business Analytics, Prescriptive Analytics and Operations Research.

The ODeL Teacher Accreditation course, "Technology in ODeL," will focus on the technologies such as Moodle that may be used in facilitating Open and Distance e-Learning (ODeL), and in managing classes and developing materials. "Assessment of Learning in ODeL" will tackle the processes, technologies and issues in the assessment of student learning in Open and Distance eLearning.

In September, UPOU MODeL opened courses on Business Analytics, which were "Techniques with Spreadsheets and Workflow-based Tools", "Supervised and Unsupervised Learning", "Supervised Learning: Regression Methodologies," and "Data Warehousing and Dimensional Modeling." The courses under Teacher Accreditation in ODeL such as "Strategic Planning in ODeL," "Learner Support in ODeL," and "Content Development for ODeL" opened last August and ended this September.
In the next months, MODeL is expected to run the rest of the Business Analytics courses, and reopen some courses under the other programs. More details are available at model.upou.edu.ph and the MODeL Facebook page, facebook.com/upoumodel. (KGMampusti)
