The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) and the Immersive Open Pedagogies (IOP) Program recently hosted a workshop titled “Immersive Learning Workshop for Faculty and Staff” on 12 April 2024, at Sandbox, CCDL Building, UP Open University, Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines.
The workshop provided faculty and staff members with the opportunity to explore various immersive learning applications and tools. This hands-on experience will assist them in generating ideas and designing lessons that integrate these technologies. Additionally, the workshop served as a platform for WILLS panelists and presenters to develop their full papers for publication in journals.
Dr. Roberto Figueroa Jr., the director of the IOP Program, opened the workshop by introducing the concept of the Metaverse. Participants engaged with the Metaverse using the immersive learning application called FrameVR. They received guidance on the application’s basic features and functionalities and experienced the Metaverse firsthand through VR headsets.
The workshop ended with anticipation for future workshops, which will delve into the realms of videography, 360 photography and videography, and the creation of VR Tours. As the educational landscape continues to evolve, educators are increasingly embracing immersive technologies as a means to engage and inspire learners.
