14 Teachers from Quezon receive training and scholarships from UPOU and partners. The Teacher Development Program Phase 5 (TDP5) held a training program on ICT Integration to Classroom Teaching for its teacher-scholars on 6-7 August 2015 at the Oblation Hall, UP Open University. Dean Melinda dP. Bandalaria, TDP Project Leader, said that the training program aims to contribute towards building the capabilities of our teachers through modern technologies and maximizing the use of the technology package not only in their studies but also in their teaching.
Sixteen public elementary and high school teachers from Quezon Province, particularly Mauban, Quezon participated in the training, which was facilitated in by Prof. Amelia Buan, a professor from the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology, Iligan City.
The Teacher Development Program, which was initially implemented in 2005, was conceptualized, established, and supported by the Quezon Power (Philippines), Limited Co. (QPL); the local government unit of Mauban, Quezon under the leadership of Mayor Fernando "Dingdong" Llamas; the UP Open University; the UPOU Foundation, Inc.; and the Department of Education-Quezon Province. In 2008, Congressman Mark Enverga, also provided funds for the program, thereby extending the program's benefits to teachers in District 1 of Quezon Province.
For this year, TDP5 scholarship grants were given to 14 public elementary and high school teachers. Aside from enrolling in a diploma program at UPOU (e.g. Diploma in Science Teaching; Diploma in Mathematics Teaching; Diploma in Social Studies Education, Diploma in Language and Literacy Education, and Diploma in Computer Science), the scholars shall also participate in other training programs.
Each scholar was also given a technology package consisting of a laptop, pocket Wi-Fi, and monthly Internet allowance. (Luisa A. Gelisan, Multimedia Center)
