The Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS) of the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) held its Student Orientation for the First Semester of the Academic Year 2023-2024 on 09 September 2023 via Zoom. The two-part orientation aimed to acquaint new students with FMDS and their respective programs, introduce them to essential resources and ensure they are well-informed about the administrative and academic policies in UPOU.

The opening program hosted by Ms. Jelaine Bagos, University Extension Associate, commenced with the national anthem and a warm welcome from Dr. Joane Serrano, Dean of the FMDS. An Audio-Visual Presentation (AVP) introducing FMDS and its key officials, Program Chairs, faculty members, and staff followed. Important UPOU administrative and academic policies were also highlighted through an AVP.

Two significant launches marked the latter part of the opening program. The first was the unveiling of the FMDS Student Support Site, a developed microsite designed to be a one-stop hub for students. This resource promises to provide students with easy access to a wealth of resources, services, and information needed for a successful online learning experience.

The second launch was the MindsMatter program for students. It is an initiative aimed at promoting the mental health and well-being of FMDS students. Ms. Erma Tidon, a seasoned psychotherapist, hypnotherapist, quantum healing practitioner, counselor, and meditation coach with 14 years of practical experience, introduced the program. Her expertise is set to become a valuable asset for students navigating the challenges of online learning.

The second part of the event was the program orientation led by the Program Chairs. The breakout sessions allowed students to delve deeper into their chosen fields. These sessions featured warm greetings from the Program Chair and Faculties-in-Charge (FICs), program orientation videos, and Q&A sessions. The program concluded with closing remarks from the Program Chair and the singing of the UP Naming Mahal.

A total of 248 learners participated in the FMDS student orientation. As the students embark on their online learning journey, FMDS remains committed to providing a supportive and enriching educational experience for all its students.
