FICS Assistant Professor Bags First Place at the 2022 UMMC Sports & Exercise Medicine Conference

Dr. Roberto Figueroa, Assistant Professor of the Faculty of Information and Communication Studies (FICS), won the best oral presentation award during the University of Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) Sports & Exercise Medicine Conference held last 12-14 September 2022 at The Everly Putrajaya, Putrajaya, Malaysia.

His presentation on Prototyping a Blended Physical Education Course on Japanese Mixed Volleyball in the Philippines aimed to identify the challenges, determine the perceived benefits, and investigate the perception of participants in the development and prototyping of the blended PE course. They determined that a blended PE course can be useful to distance learners especially if they overcome the logistical and digital challenges. This study was co-authored by Hiroshi Taniguchi, an FICS adjunct professor.

The award was given by Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Nahar Azmi Mohamed, Head of the Department of Sports Medicine, UMMC and Organizing Chairperson of UMMC Sports and Exercise Medicine Conference 2022.

The sports conference aimed to provide a premier interdisciplinary platform for evidence-based discussion, the most recent innovations, trends, and concerns as well as practical challenges encountered and solutions adopted in the fields of Physical Activity, Exercise, and Fitness. This program is the first organized by the Sports Medicine Department, UMMC with the theme “Healthy, Body & Mind: Empowering Lives through Physical Activity”.
