Dr. Melinda dela Peña Bandalaria, UP Open University (UPOU) Chancellor and Professor, led the university delegation at the MoodleMoot in Japan as a keynote speaker. The event was held at the Ibaraki Christian University, on 15-17 February 2023.
Titled “The Future Collaboration of Asian Open Universities and Moodle LMS Open Development,” Dr. Bandalaria’s presentation discussed the Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU) and how the Moodle Project is a critical collaboration for mega-universities with student populations in the millions across the most populated nations globally. Dr. Bandalaria’s presentation summarized a recent survey of needs for the Moodle Learning Management System (LMS) of all the AAOU member universities. The said survey served as the basis for the development of a roadmap for the Moodle LMS, including the field of learning analytics.
Other delegates to MoodleMoot Japan are Dr. Reinald Adrian dL. Pugoy, who presented about AAOU-Philippines; Ms. Verna Banasihan et al., for a presentation on the “Use of user tour, contact form, and accessibility plugins in enhancing a Moodle-based virtual conference experience;” Dr. Myra C. Almodiel presented a research study on “Who is speaking? Who is Listening? Analyzing Learner’s Interaction Patterns in Online Discussion Forums;” Dr. Roberto B. Figueroa Jr., who spoke about “Innovative Pedagogical Needs of Undergraduate University Students in Southeast Asian Open Universities;” Asst. Prof. Cecille Moldez for her presentation titled “Moodle Gamification using Level-Up! Plug-in;” and Dr. Jean A. Saludadez for her paper titled “Assessment Issues in Moodle: The Case of the ASEAN Studies Graduate Program.”
MoodleMoot is a conference dedicated to Moodle users, developers, and administrators. It is a 2 to 3-day event held in a conference center, university, or similar facility. The said conference includes presentations, workshops, and forums covering topics of using and integrating Moodle effectively in a learning environment.
