The University of the Philippines National Engineering Center (UP NEC) visited UP Open University (UPOU) for a benchmark meeting on 20 July 2023 at the UPOU Headquarters in Los Baños Laguna.

The primary objective of this meeting was to foster knowledge exchange and collaboration regarding open and distance eLearning practices. The discussions focused on online learning methodologies, Learning Management System (LMS) administration, online learning design and delivery, learner engagement strategies and technologies, assessment and evaluation methods, and potential areas for partnership.

Dr. Reinald Adrian dL. Pugoy, the Director of UPOU’s Information and Communication Technology Development Office (ICTDO), gave an insightful presentation on ICTDO’s role and its administration of Moodle/LMS. Dr. Melinda dela Peña Bandalaria, UPOU Chancellor, led the discussion together with Dr. Ricardo T. Bagarinao, Director of the Center for Open and Digital Teaching and Learning (CODTL), Dr. Myra C. Almodiel, Director of the Office of Public Affairs (OPA), Asst. Professor Mari Anjeli Crisanto, Director of the Quality Assurance Office (QAO), and Ms. Margaret Jarmin, Program Development Associate for Institutional Linkages.

The UP NEC team was headed by Ms. Ma. Rea F. Bunuan, Training Chair, together with Ms. Regina Gamo, Mr. Bernie Villaluna, Ms. Lovelyn Rivera, Mr. Jan-jan Eslera, and Mr. Eduardo G. Piano.

In line with its mandate under RA 10650, also referred to as the “Open Distance Learning Law,” and initiatives to contribute to Sustainable Development Goals No. 4 and 17, UPOU continually bridges different organizations and institutions with relevant mechanisms and supporting services to provide access to quality education.
