5th Edu-Hack to focus on Recreating Science Labs at Home

Many of us wonder what the scenario will be like when students cease going to school and learn entirely in the confines of their homes, especially with the ongoing global health crisis. Would students grasp lessons that require hands-on skills and special instruments? Will  students be able to learn as much at home as in school? How do we ensure that the students experience the same quality of laboratory learning outside the classroom?

The fifth episode of University of the Philippines Open University’s (UPOU) “Edu-Hack: Navigating through a Turbulent Educational Landscape” is aimed at addressing these questions. Entitled “Re-creating SciLab @ Home,” the next  episode of the Edu-Hack Podcast Series will feature three experts in Science Teaching. These are Dr. Maria Dalisay Maligalig, Program Chair of UPOU  Diploma in Science Teaching (DST) program; Asst. Prof. Ralph Lauren Alomia, and Asst. Prof. Emmanuel Florido, Affiliate Faculty members for the UPOU DST program.

Assoc. Prof. Jonathan Barcelo,  Associate Professor, Saint Louis University, Baguio City and UPOU PhD in Education student will serve as moderator with Mr. Arman Santos, fellow UPOU PhD in Education student as alternative moderator.

The 5th Edu-Hack Podcast will be held on 01 July 2020, 9:30 AM through the UPOU Networks. This episode targets teachers and faculty members handling laboratory classes but is also open to an unlimited number of participants. Registration is free via https://networks.upou.edu.ph/podcast/ or through https://forms.gle/6yLBYkMWJrdDBKxa8

Edu-Hack is UPOU’s effort to discuss how Philippine universities are responding and adapting to disruptions in higher education brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. Edu-Hack is also part of the #OPENFight program, UPOU’s banner program for all efforts towards coping and managing resources amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
