The UP Open University (UPOU) Multimedia Center (MC) conducted a training program for UPOU employees entitled “TightVNC: Remote Control of Slideshow and Zoom for Hybrid Events.”  The training was held on 31 January 2023 at the UPOU Audio Visual Room.

The training started with the welcome remarks of Asst. Prof. Luisa Gelisan, Director of UPOU Multimedia Center. She explained the purpose of the training is to equip UPOU personnel, who assist in the presentation of slide shows and those who assist in Zoom management in hybrid events, with proper and appropriate skills.  She also expressed her gratitude to the participants, and the resource person, Ms. Ann Kristine Medina, for willingly sharing her knowledge and practice with UPOU staff members. Ms. Medina is UPOU MC’s Administrative Assistant and is a graduate of both the UPOU Associate in Arts and Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia Studies programs.  She has been serving with MC since 2019 and has been tapped as a scriptwriter, narrator, animator, illustrator, and even as a host for MC-related initiatives.

Ms. Ann Kristine Medina served as resource person for the training.

Ms. Medina started her presentation with an explanation of the benefits of being able to control devices remotely, especially during physical or hybrid events. According to her, it will enable the staff member to effectively assist the speaker in projecting PowerPoint presentations, videos, and even with other computer functions while presenting. She mentioned that MC has explored various applications and has found that TightVNC works best for UPOU-related events. In addition to it being a free remote desktop application,  it will enable you to see the desktop of a remote machine and control it with your local mouse and keyboard.

She walked each participant through the installation of the application on their devices and had each of them take turns in assisting a partner with a PowerPoint presentation or Video presentation using TighVNC.  Ms. Medina further demonstrated how TightVNC could be used when the presenter shares his/her screen on Zoom.

Mr. Lexter Mangubat, Information Systems Researcher, assisted Ms. Medina and served as the master of ceremonies. The training was participated in by eight (8)  UPOU personnel from various units and offices of the University.
