The Associate in Arts (AA) Program of the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) Faculty of Education (FEd) will hold the AA Digital Fiesta on 20-21 September 2021 from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM via Zoom, Facebook, and YouTube platforms.

The two-day event will highlight and promote the diverse talents and excellent artworks of the students under the AA program.  Selected works and other artistic outputs from the AA workshop-seminar series on podcasting, digital art creation, and website creation will be showcased during the celebration.  Top performances and output from the Arts 10, Arts 11, Film 10, and other AA courses will be exhibited during the event.  Narratives from AA students, graduands, graduates, alumni, and faculties-in-charge (FICs) will be shown during the occasion.

The virtual celebration will also feature a Zumba Party which is part of the AA fitness and well-being initiative through the UPOU-AA StayFit Initiative Project.  UPOU: StayFit is an online-based undertaking that aims to strengthen and encourage all UPOU undergraduate students to follow a healthier lifestyle through videos and engaging classes created by student volunteers.  Participants of the Zumba session are encouraged to wear Grease-inspired clothing.  Those who have the best attire will have the chance to win prizes.

The concept of “Digital Fiesta” was part of the Academic Program Improvement (API) application prepared by Assistant Professor Marie-Sol P. Hidalgo back in 2019.  When Dr. Merites M. Buot, Professor at the Department of Human Kinetics, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), took the role of the AA Program Chair, she coordinated the implementation of the AA Digital Fiesta with the goal of helping the students prepare for their journey into the field of the arts and humanities.  The project is in line with the AA program’s API objectives which are to plan the enhancement of existing academic and non-academic courses and to compile narratives of the AA students’ experiences while studying at UPOU.  Through this event, Dr. Buot envisioned that the AA program can expand its reach to various  stakeholders, most especially the students.
