Asst. Prof. Raymundo appointed as OIC VCAA

Assistant  Professor Maria Rowena  D. R. Raymundo, faculty member of the Faculty of Education (FEd), UP Open University (UPOU),  has been appointed as the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the UPOU Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (OVCAA) effective 01 August 2021. 

Assistant Professor Raymundo was appointed as a Senior Lecturer at UPOU right after she completed the UPOU Master of Distance Education (MDE) program in 2015 wherein she graduated the top of her class. She was then given an Assistant Professor position as a full time faculty member in 2018 and then served as Program Chair for the MDE program to date. In 2019, she was appointed Assistant to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (VCAA) on Quality Assurance. As an Assistant to the VCAA, she took charge and oversaw the university’s initiatives and efforts towards achieving and maintaining Quality Assurance in higher education especially in open and distance elearning (ODeL). She was also FEd’s Focal Person for Quality Assurance during this time. Given her background in medicine, especially in obstetrics, she has always been the go-to person for health consultations especially for women employees of UPOU. She is also part of the roster of resource persons for health and gender-related discussions in the university. When the global pandemic broke out in 2020, Asst. Prof. Raymundo was appointed as Team Leader of the UPOU COVID-19 Health Team.

Prior to being a UPOU faculty member, she practiced medicine as an obstetrician and gynecologist, and served as a faculty member of UP Manila where she also obtained her degree. A full time career in homemaking beckoned her when she bore her first child until her three children grew to their teens. 

Dr.  Raymundo‘s appointment was made by UPOU Chancellor, Dr. Melinda dela Peña Bandalaria, following the retirement of Dr. Melinda F. Lumanta who served as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs for eight years.

The Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS) of the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) faculty and staff presented their research at the 3rd World Immersive Learning Labs Symposium (WILLS) 2025 held at the Kyoto University of Foreign Studies (KUFS) from 13 to 15 April 2025 in Kyoto, Japan. This year’s conference was co-organized by the UPOU, The Future Hub’s of KUFS, and The Mixed, Augmented, and Virtual Realities (MAVR) Special Interest Group (SIG) of the Japan Association for Language Teaching.During session 3, short talks, of Day 2, eight (😎 FMDS research papers were presented.A quick tour of the Future Hub’s immersive learning lab was also conducted, led by Dr. Eric Hawkinson, organizer of the event, President and MAVR research coordinator. This laboratory is equipped with cutting-edge technology, providing a unique environment where students, educators, and researchers can experiment, innovate, and push the boundaries of traditional education. It includes the U Theatre that has been meticulously designed to facilitate these experiences.
