Lancaster University Professor Don Passey will be a Plenary Speaker for the 4th International Conference on Open and Distance e-Learning (ICODeL 2021). Professor Passey is a founding Co-Director and former Director of the Centre for Technology Enhanced Learning.

Professor Passey teaches under the Educational Research, Student and Education Services Department of Lancaster University. He obtained his Doctorate degree from Lancaster University. An established researcher and expert in technology enhanced learning, Professor Passey has abundant publications, and mainly works on leading edge technologies, blended learning in post-compulsory education settings, mobile technologies in classrooms, and learner support. In 2018, Professor Passey visited the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) for a month-long fellowship wherein he imparted his knowledge and best practices in relation to his research interests and work.  

On the first day of ICODeL 2021, Professor Passey will cover Plenary Session 2 which will focus on “Using New Technologies for Inclusive Education.“

Carrying the theme “The University of the Future: Sustainability and Agility Amidst Disruption,” ICODeL 2021 will be held virtually on 13-15 October 2021. The conference is an event organized by the UPOU, along with the Philippine Society for Distance Learning (PSDL), and UPOU Foundation, Inc. (UPOUFI). The Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS) of the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) faculty and staff presented their research at the 3rd World Immersive Learning Labs Symposium (WILLS) 2025 held at the Kyoto University of Foreign Studies (KUFS) from 13 to 15 April 2025 in Kyoto, Japan. This year’s conference was co-organized by the UPOU, The Future Hub’s of KUFS, and The Mixed, Augmented, and Virtual Realities (MAVR) Special Interest Group (SIG) of the Japan Association for Language Teaching.During session 3, short talks, of Day 2, eight (😎 FMDS research papers were presented.A quick tour of the Future Hub’s immersive learning lab was also conducted, led by Dr. Eric Hawkinson, organizer of the event, President and MAVR research coordinator. This laboratory is equipped with cutting-edge technology, providing a unique environment where students, educators, and researchers can experiment, innovate, and push the boundaries of traditional education. It includes the U Theatre that has been meticulously designed to facilitate these experiences.
