The University of the Philippines (UP) Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (OVPAA), in partnership with the UPLB Institute of Mathematical Science and Physics,  invites all UPOU students and UPOU faculty members to a special conversation titled “Mathematics for Human Flourishing.” This will be held on 4 May 2021, 10:00 AM – 12:00 NN.

Dr. Francis Su, author of the book with the same title, will be the speaker. His book is published by Yale University Press and was awarded the 2021 Euler Book Prize. Dr. Su served as President of the Mathematical Association of America (2015-2017) and is the current Vice President of the American Mathematical Society (2020-2023). He is the Benediktsson-Karwa Professor of Mathematics at Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, California.

Dr. Su will illustrate how Mathematics — a field where many have had traumatic experiences with — becomes vibrant and empowering when we see how it can meet basic human desires and how it can build virtues that serve people.
