UPOU joins Global Campaign to Solve Climate Change by 2030

The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) is set to join the Solve Climate By 2030 campaign, a global dialogue to climate solutions. This campaign is organized by The Center for Environmental Policy at Bard College together with the UPOU and more than 100 other universities and schools from around 50 countries.

Simultaneous webinars all over the world will be used as springboards for discussing climate solutions in the local context especially by climate-concerned universities and schools across disciplines.  One of these  is a Solve Climate By 2030 webinar organized by the Master of Environment and Natural Resources Management Program (MENRM) of the Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS), UPOU. The event will be held on 07 April 2021 at 9:00–10:30 AM, via Zoom.

Several environmental educators were invited by UPOU to speak at this event. Mr. Ralph Daniel C. Lumbres, a visual artist, designer, educator, and woodworker, will talk about how an artist can respond to climate problems. Mr. Jabez Flores, a graduate of MENRM at UPOU and a Doctoral student of Ph.D. Environmental Science at UPLB will focus on how permaculture can address climate problems in the country and the world. Mr. Marlon Martin, an Ifugao who heads a non-profit heritage conservation organization in Ifugao, Philippines, will talk about how indigenous knowledge can help address climate problems. Professor and Forester Pastor Malabrigo Jr., Chairperson of the Department of Forest Biological Sciences, College of Forestry and Natural Resources, and Manager of the UPLB Land Grant Management Office, will talk about how planting native trees can help address climate change.

Anyone can join this event by registering in this link: https://networks.upou.edu.ph/solve-climate-by-2030-registration/ or https://tinyurl.com/2030solveclimate

Aside from the webinar, the UPOU also took the challenge to #MakeClimateAClass. Dr. Joane V. Serrano, Associate Professor of MENRM, FMDS, and Dr. Consuelo dL Habito, Professor and Program Chair of MERNM, are  spearheading this activity by engaging UPOU students to take part in the discussions on climate solutions as part of the course projects.
