Assistant Professor Rameses De Jesus has been appointed by the UP Open University (UPOU) Chancellor, Dr. Melinda dela Pena Bandalaria, to serve as the Director of the UPOU Office of Gender Concerns (OGC) starting 01 March 2018. Prior to his appointment, he served as Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Director of the office since August 2017.
Assistant Professor De Jesus has spearheaded OGC activities including UPOU’s participation in the municipal-based cancer prevention fundraising for women, “Walk for a Cause” in March 2017, and a seminar on “Psycho-Emotional Well-being of Women and Men in the Workplace” in celebration of the World Mental Health Month in October 2017, where he served as the resource person.

Under his current leadership, the OGC led UPOU’s celebration of the Women’s Month in March 2018 where the university participated in several activities within the community such as the “Advocacy Walk and Padyak para kay Juana” on 6 March organized by the Ecosystems Research and development Bureau, and the “Walk for a Cause” on 8 March organized by the Municipality Government of Los Baños, Laguna. In addition, the OGC also organized several activities for UPOU employees including a “Wear Violet Day” on 8 March which was the International Women’s Day, mounting of the “UPOU Women’s Month Freedom Wall” at the UPOU Main Building lobby, conducting a seminar on “Reproductive and Sexual Health for Juana and Juan” on 21 March, and co-organizing the “Let’s Talk It Over Lecture Series: Situating Women in Today’s Economy and Environment” with the Faculty of Management and Development Studies on 27 March. The OGC also launched the UPOU Gender Microsite on 26 March under his supervision.

As a faculty member of the Faculty of Education, Asst. Prof. De Jesus teaches courses on basic guidance and counseling, gender and society, and communication skills for the undergraduate programs and professional teaching certification program of UPOU. (ACLlamas and RMValencia)
