The University of the Philippines Open University’s Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS) through the Master of Arts in Nursing (MAN) program, headed by Asst. Prof. Queenie R. Ridulme, Program Chair, conducted the Let’s Talk it Over titled “Universal Health Care Law: Implications to Maternal and Child Health” on 07 May 2019 at the University of the Philippines Manila, College of Nursing (CN) Seminar room.
Dr. Teresita I. Barcelo, MAN Professorial Lecturer, former UPOU Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and one of the leading nursing experts in the country, shared her expertise in the field of Maternal and Child nursing and talked about the recently signed Universal Health Care Law, as well as the ASEAN Nursing Education Practice. She focused on identifying the issues and concerns on maternal and child health and how nurses can integrate their role in the new health care law.
Staff and nurses from Philippine General Hospital (PGH), MAN and CN students and alumni joined the discussion during the open forum. Several questions were raised regarding the Universal Health Care Law and its implications to nursing and maternal and child health. Some PGH staff also shared knowledge on the topic.
The MAN program is looking forward to more seminars and workshops with this topic to address the different concerns on health and provide more information on the universal health care law. (RAJSales)
