Following an extension of the nomination deadline for the next Dean of the UPOU Faculty of Information and Communication Studies (FICS), a Public Forum for the Presentation of the Plans and Vision of the Nominee was held on 4 February 2025 at the UPOU Audiovisual Room, online via Zoom, and live-streamed over the UPOU Networks, UPOU Facebook Page, and UPOU YouTube channel. Dr. Roberto B. Figueroa, Jr., the sole nominee for the position, presented his vision for FICS.
Dr. Ricardo Bagarinao, Chair of the Search Committee for the next FICS Dean, opened the forum and introduced the UPOU officials who attended the forum both physically and online, led by Dr. Melinda dela Peña Bandalaria. Dr. Bagarinao also introduced the members of the Search Committee.
Dr. Figueroa’s vision is titled “Confluence, Creativity, and Care: Leading FICS into a Future of Innovation, Collaboration, and Well-being.” His presentation details his plans, goals, and specific strategies for teaching and learning, research and knowledge creation, and extension and public service. His presentation was complemented by visual representations and frameworks that aptly captured his planned direction for FICS in the next three years.
After the presentation, there was an opportunity for all participants and viewers to ask questions or clarify points that were mentioned. Some concerns that were raised include his preference for one academic calendar, his approach to hiring and recruitment of faculty and staff members, sharing technology and tools with the entire university, and the concern about his congeniality and how it will affect the faculty and the external partners.
Dr. Bagarinao served as both the host and moderator of the forum. He concluded the event by reminding attendees of the remaining activities in the selection process for the next FICS Dean.
