On 21 November 2024, the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS) Master of Arts in Nursing (MAN) Program hosted a Clinical Practicum Orientation. This initiative was in partnership with preceptors from the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) spearheaded by the MAN Program Development Associate and Assistant Professor Regine Karla Bagalanon, together with the new Program Chair, Dr. Rita Ramos, and faculty members Dr. Queenie Ridulme and Assistant Professor Ria Valerie Cabanes.

This full-day event aimed to enhance the clinical learning experience for students by aligning expectations and standardizing the orientation process for instructors and students. The orientation covered a range of essential topics, including an introduction to the practicum framework, a detailed overview of practicum and intensive practicum schedules, and a clear delineation of roles and responsibilities for both clinical instructors and students. Interactive sessions allowed for open dialogue, allowing participants to ask questions, raise concerns, and engage in collaborative discussions with clinical preceptors, thus fostering a supportive and dynamic learning environment.

This orientation aligns with key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 4 (Quality Education). By ensuring that MAN program students are well-prepared, ethical, and competent in their practice, this initiative will contribute to better healthcare services and patient outcomes. Furthermore, by improving the clinical learning experience, the program supports quality education, ensuring that students acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in their professional careers.
