UPOU FED and LBSCFI Holds First Day of STEAM Education @ UPOU

The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) Faculty of Education (FED), in collaboration with the Los Baños Science Community Foundation, Incorporated (LBSCFI), kicked off the first day of the STEAM Education @ UPOU event series on 11 December 2024 at the UPOU Headquarters.

The event, held in celebration of the 2024 National Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (NSTW), and as part of LBSCFI’s SyenSaya, drew the participation of elementary students and teachers from various public and private schools in Los Baños. The day’s activities were organized with the Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI).

Dr. Charisse Reyes, Dean of FED, extended a warm welcome to all attendees and expressed gratitude to the partners, storytellers, and facilitators. Dr. Myra Oruga, in her opening remarks, emphasized UPOU and FED’s commitment to promoting science and technology education nationally and internationally.

DOST-SEI representatives, Mr. Michael Telesforo and Mr. David Castor, Jr., conducted teacher workshops exploring the significance, guidelines, and storytelling process. Concurrently, engaging storytelling sessions were held for elementary students, focusing on captivating scientific and mathematical themes.

The STEAM Education @ UPOU event will continue until 13 December 2024. Other events to look forward to are the STEM Explorers and Seekers: Night Observation Camp, Science and Math Quiz Contest, and the continuing STEAM Sparks!: A Game-based Exhibit. All events are held at UPOU’s headquarters in Los Baños. Laguna.
