The UP Open University (UPOU) hosted officials from the University of Eastern Philippines (UEP) for a benchmarking activity at the UPOU Headquarters in Los Baños, Laguna on 24 July 2024.
The event was facilitated by Dr. Myra Almodiel, Director of UPOU Office of Public Affairs (OPA), Dr. Ricardo Bagarinao, Director of the Center for Open and Digital Teaching and Learning (CODTL), Mr. Lexter Mangubat, Deputy Director of CODTL Educational Media Production (EMP), and Dr. Reinald Adrian D. Pugoy, Director of ICT Development Office (ICTDO).
The delegates from University of Eastern Philippines (UEP) was headed by Dr. Ronato S. Ballado, VP for Academic Affairs with Dr. Tito M. Cabili, Dean Graduate Studies, Dr. Nimfa R. De Veyra, Head QAU, Dr. Celeste J. Chan, ICT Director, Prof. Mary Jane B. Calpa, Director for Instruction, Dr. Perlita B. Loverita, College of Arts and Communication, Dr. Miriam B. Cabrito, GSFaculty/Secretary, Dr. Marlo D. Alvarez, Degree Chair (Master of Arts in Education), Dr. Joy Presado, Degree Chair (Doctor of Public Administration), Prof. Ena Rose J. Barojabo, Faculty/ GS Staff, and Mr. Noel Lagrimas, Faculty/GS Staff explored UPOU’s practices and implementations in distance elearning.
The discussion focused on instruction, research, extension, and production, through the provision of quality education in distance education. Additionally, they delved into the media production processes and ICT support systems employed by UPOU, emphasizing how educational materials and resources are developed to meet the needs of diverse learners across various degree programs.
Aligned with RA 10650, the “Open Distance Learning Law,” and its commitment to Sustainable Development Goals No. 4 (Quality Education) and No. 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), UPOU plays a crucial role in strengthening collaboration among institutions and organizations to provide accessible, high-quality education and promote collective advancement in the educational sector.
