The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) hosted an online benchmarking activity for Cavite State University (CVSU) on 04 September 2024. The activity aims to promote knowledge sharing and cooperation between the two institutions.
The delegates from CVSU, headed by Dr. Bernard Feranil, Director of the Center for Language Learning and Research (CELLAR), expressed interest in the processes for assessing manuscripts, particularly in terms of plagiarism detection. He mentioned that the primary objective of their benchmarking is to explore how they can integrate policies related to maintaining academic integrity within CVSU’s form and style guidelines.
Dr. Myra Almodiel, Director of UPOU Office of Public Affairs (OPA), and Dr. Ricardo Bagarinao, Director of UPOU Center for Open and Digital Teaching and Learning (CODTL), facilitated the discussion and shared UPOU’s practices in administering examinations with the use of various platforms, highlighting the safety features. During the discussion, they also talked about the UPOU’s policies on the students’ ethical use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in their outputs. Dr. Bagarinao also briefly presented the UPOU’s guidelines on its use in Teaching and Learning.
In line with RA 10650, the “Open Distance Learning Act,” and its dedication to Sustainable Development Goals No. 4 (Quality Education) and No. 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), UPOU is instrumental in promoting collaboration among various institutions and organizations. This partnership seeks to offer accessible, high-quality education and support collective progress in the educational sector.
