UPOU recognizes faculty and staff members for exemplary and loyal service to the university.To give special recognition to its exceptional staff members, UP Open University held its Family Day on 26 February 2015 at the CCDL Auditorium in its Headquarters in Los Baños, Laguna as part of its 20th Anniversary celebration.
The program started with the Service Awards given to people who have rendered 5, 10, 15 and 20 years of service to the University. The awardees for 20 years of services were Carmelita Orias, Eleanor Manipol, Pura Amoloza, Melinda Bandalaria, Aljendro Zamora, Isagani Nuñez, Perfecto Ramos, Imelda Valera and Gina Roa. Roberto Remanes, Larry Cruz, Maripres Sarinas, Emely Amoloza, Patricia Arinto, Sheila Bonito, Agnes Mejia, and Teynalod Delos Santos were honored for their 15 years of service. The 10-year service awards were given to Alex Melodillar, Lorelee Mones, Eden Salon, Maria Amabelle Banasihan and Elinor Lopez. Chancellor Grace Alfonso, Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs Melinda Lumanta and Vice-Chancellor for Finance and Administration Jean Saludadez gave out the plaques to all the awardees.
The following recipients of the of the UPOU Research Grants in 2014 were also recognized and awarded with a P30,000 grant and a certificate:

The awardees for the UPOU REPS Research Grant were:

  • Ms. Luisa A. Gelisan (Harnessing Video as a Medium for Open and Distance eLearning: Potentials, Challenges, and Strategies)
  • Ms. Margaret J. Suarez (Relationship between Test Anxiety and Academic Performance of the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) Undergraduate Online Learners )

Also recognized were recipients of the International Publications Award (IPA) in 2014. This award aims to reinforce scholarly publications by faculty and REPS and project the University in the global academic community. The awardees were:

  • Ms. Luisa Gelisan for a book chapter entitled “Use of Lecture/Tutorial Web streaming in Distance e-Learning” published in “Emerging Modes and Approaches in Open and Flexible Education” by the University of Hong Kong Press in December 2014;
  • Dr. Ricardo Bagarinao for his journal article entitled “Graph Theoretic Approach in Analyzing the Navigation Paths of Online Learners” published in Asia Life Sciences 23(1):331-341, January-June 2104; and
  • Dr. Inocenio Buot, Jr. for five journal articles:
    • Conservation and Sustainability of Socio Ecological Production Landscapes and Seascapes.
    • IAMURE International Journal of Ecology and Conservation, 10(1):93-102, March 2014.

Besides the other awards received by Dr. Inocencio Buot, he was also recognized for having been awarded as UP Scientist III in 2014.
Dr. Jean Saludadez, on the other hand, was given the UPOUFI Professorial Chair in Open and Distance Learning 2015 with a monetary award of Php 50,000 for her research “Understanding Virtual Organizations: A Study of Authority in an ODeL Organization.” This award is established to recognize achievement of faculty members in the arts and humanities, social sciences and philosophy, mathematics, natural sciences and technology and general education. The award is made available to advance or develop a faculty’s field, hence the gross potential of the faculty to conduct research is used as the determining basis for awarding.
For their exemplary work and service to the university, the 2015 Gawad Chancellor Awards were given to Dr. Jean A. Saludadez as the Outstanding Faculty, Ms. Luisa A. Gelisan as the Outstanding REPS, and Ms. Agnes V. Mejia and Ms. Genoveva Mercado as the Outstanding Administrative Personnel, 1st and 2nd level, respectively.
