On May 28, 2024, Dr. Roberto Figueroa Jr. delivered his lecture at the College of Education, University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD) to share the conceptualization and implementation of IOP. He was invited by Dr. Amelia Fajardo and Assistant Professor Ferdinand Pol Martin.

Dr. Figueroa’s lecture delved into the theoretical foundation of IOP. These pedagogies are designed to enhance learning experiences by utilizing immersive technologies and open educational resources. The program’s goal is to create more inclusive, engaging, and effective immersive educational environments that can adapt to diverse learning needs and contexts.

In his discussion, Dr. Figueroa illustrated how UPOU implements these concepts through the IOP program. This program encompasses a range of projects aimed at integrating virtual and augmented reality, gamification, and other cutting-edge educational technologies into the learning process. These initiatives are aligned with the broader educational objectives of promoting accessibility, equity, and quality in education.

The event was attended by other professors, researchers, and students from the college, all of whom expressed interest in the potential of these pedagogical advancements for innovative education. The interactive session that followed Dr. Figueroa’s lecture provided a platform for rich discussions and the exchange of ideas, underscoring the collaborative mindset necessary for the continuous evolution of educational practices.

Dr. Figueroa’s lecture not only shed light on the transformative potential of IOP but also reinforced the essential role of education in achieving sustainable development.
