The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) forged an alliance with Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 27 June 2024 at the Oblation Hall, UPOU Headquarters, Los Baños, Laguna.

The signing ceremony was attended by representatives from both institutions. From UPOU, the attendees were Dr. Melinda DP. Bandalaria, Chancellor; Dr. Primo G. Garcia, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs; Dr. Finaflor F. Taylan, Associate Professor & Director, OGC; and Asst. Prof. Luisa A. Gelisan, University Registrar; and Dr. Maria Lourdes Jarabe, Assistant Professor. Representing PLM were Atty. Domingo Y. Reyes, Jr., University President; and Mr. Dan Michael A. Cortez, Vice President for Research, Academic, and Extension Services.

UPOU and PLM will focus their partnership on the following objectives:

  1. Development of joint venture projects between UPOU and PLM.
  2. Organization of joint academic and scientific activities, such as courses, conferences, seminars, symposia, or lectures.
  3. PLM will send representatives, faculty members, students, and/or staff to UPOU for activities including but not limited to training, seminars, extension projects, and activities. Similarly, UPOU may choose to do the same.
  4. Exchange of materials and publications of common interest.

This momentous occasion further highlights UPOU’s unwavering commitment to cultivating and strengthening partnerships with various entities. As this collaboration progresses, it is anticipated to bring benefits to its respective students, faculty, and researchers, positively impacting education and society at large. The partnership between UPOU and PLM signals a promising future for open, distance and eLearning (ODeL).
