In a groundbreaking move that promises to redefine the landscape of online education, the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) and the Indonesia Cyber Education Institute (ICE-I) solidified their collaborative efforts through a momentous Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing. This significant event, held on October 19, 2023, brought together esteemed figures from both institutions, marking the dawn of a new era in the world of Open and Distance e-Learning (ODeL).
The primary objective of this bilateral agreement is to foster innovation and excellence in the realm of Open and Distance e-Learning (ODeL). These two leading institutions have set their sights on expanding educational opportunities by focusing on the development and proliferation of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). MOOCs are a cornerstone of modern education, offering learners globally accessible and flexible avenues for knowledge acquisition.
The signing of this MOU signifies a shared commitment to harness the power of technology to provide high-quality educational content to a wider audience. As the world increasingly embraces digital learning, UPOU and ICE-I are poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of education.
This momentous event was graced by the presence of distinguished individuals, representing the pinnacle of leadership and expertise in the field of ODeL. From UPOU, we were honored to have: Dr. Melinda dP. Bandalaria, Chancellor of the University of the Philippines Open University; Dr. Jean Saludadez, Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, whose financial acumen is instrumental in driving UPOU’s educational initiatives; Dr. Diego Silang Maranan, Dean of the Faculty of Information and Communication Studies (FICS), a visionary academic leader; Dr. Myra Almodiel – Director of the Office of Public Affairs, entrusted with shaping UPOU’s public image; and Dr. Reinald Pugoy Director of the Information and Communication Technology Development Office (ICTDO), an expert in the utilization of technology for learning.
Complementing this impressive UPOU delegation, ICE-I was represented by a stellar group of education leaders: Prof. Ojat Darojat, Chairman of ICE-I Consortium, spearheading the organization’s strategic initiatives; Marito Garcia, Lead Consultant for ICE-I, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience; Haemiwan Fathony, Consultant for ICE-I, ADB, a key player in international development; Paulina Pannen – Senior Advisor to ICE-I, a guiding light in the Institute’s educational endeavors; Basuki Hardjoyo, Partnership Focal at ICE-I, responsible for forging critical collaborations; Johan Santri, IT Officer at ICE-I, the technical backbone of the organization; and Radianti, Marketing Officer at ICE-I, the face of communication and promotion.
