TESDA Benchmarked UPOU’s Practices in MOOCs Implementation

UP Open University hosted representatives from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) on 28 July 2023 at the UPOU Headquarters in Los Baños, Laguna.

The TESDA team, led by Ms. Redilyn C. Agub, Division Chief of eTESDA, benchmarked UPOU’s best practices regarding the development and implementation of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). They also discussed the issues and challenges in MOOCs’ implementation, licensing of Open Educational Resources (OERs), and educational media production.

The discussion was led by Dr. Melinda dela Peña Bandalaria, UP Open University Chancellor, Dr. Joane V. Serrano, Dean of the Faculty of Management and Development Studies, and Dr. Myra C. Almodiel, Director of the UPOU Office of Public Affairs (OPA).

Mr. Lexter Mangubat, Deputy Director for the Center for Open and Digital Teaching and Learning (CODTL) Educational Media Production (EMP), was also present during the meeting and provided a short tour of the multimedia production room after.

Completing the TESDA team are Bianca Himaya Luna, Senior TESDS; Bianca Himaya Luna, Senior TESDS; Mr. Harry Nova D.H. Nur, Content Writer at TESDA.

This activity was done in line with UPOU’s mandate under RA 10650 (Open Distance Learning Law) and to contribute to Sustainable Development Goals No. 4 and 17. UPOU continually bridges different organizations and institutions with relevant mechanisms and supporting services to provide access to quality education.

UPOU and TESDA have been strategic education partners for several years, collaborating to enhance the accessibility and quality of education across various fields. Through this partnership, both institutions have jointly developed and implemented initiatives focused on upskilling and empowering learners in the Philippines.
