ASEANnale 2023 to Feature Resource Speaker from ASEAN Secretariat

Dr. Roger Y. Chao, Jr., with his rich ASEAN academic and development background and experience, will grace the ASEANnale 2023 as a resource speaker. He will speak on the topic “The Role of Education, Youth and Sports in ASEAN Community Building.” ASEANnale 2023, with the theme “Sustainability in Education: Intersections, Ideation, Innovations,”  is a hybrid cultural dialogue where participants come together and contribute to ASEAN studies in a multi-disciplinary level. 

Dr. Chao currently serves as Assistant Director/Head of Education for Youth and Sports at the ASEAN Secretariat. He has been engaged in the international education development sector in various capacities in various organizations including UNESCO, UNICEF, the European Commission, Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD), and the British Council since 2013. He has published commissioned international reports, academic journals and edited volumes, and international media on regionalization and internationalization of higher education, teacher education, recognition of higher education, education and the 4th industrial revolution, and refugee education. 

Dr. Chao holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree on Asian and International Studies from City University of Hong Kong, a European Masters in Lifelong Learning: Policy and Management from a consortium composed of the Danish School of Education, Aarhus University, University of Deusto, and the Institute of Education, University of London, and a Masters in Education (Mathematics) from the University of the Philippines. 

The ASEANnale 2023 will highlight the research and studies that present the narratives of their countries and the regional culture of ASEAN while showing to the region and the world of the artistic and innovative works of ASEAN higher education students and faculty in producing digital video and multimedia material and cuisines that reflect the intersection between food production, consumption, and sustainability.
