The UP Open University (UPOU) joins the nation in celebrating National Disaster Resilience Month this July 2023 by launching the Reelsilience competition to raise awareness on disaster prevention and mitigation, disaster preparedness and response, and disaster rehabilitation and recovery with a focus on this year’s theme “BIDANG Pilipino: Building a Stronger Filipino Well-being towards Disaster Resilience.” 

Led by the UPOU Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Committee’s #AlwaysReady campaign, Reelsilience is a Facebook ‘reels contest’ open to all UPOU students, alumni, faculty, and staff. The said contest encourages all aspiring filmmakers, social media influencers, advocates, and those who are simply passionate and interested in making a difference to join and maximize this perfect platform to make their voices heard.

Following the mechanics of submission, all entries must adhere to the following guidelines: 

  • Theme: “BIDAng Pilipino: Building a Stronger Filipino Well-Being towards Disaster Resilience.” The video reel should focus on promoting disaster resilience and preparedness among Filipinos. 
  • Video Requirements: Reels must be a new and original video exclusively created for this competition. It should not have been previously published, used, or distributed in any form. The reel should have a maximum duration of 90 seconds to keep it concise and engaging. 
  • Accessibility: The Facebook Reel must be accessible to the public. The privacy setting of the video must be “Public” so anyone on the platform may be able to view the video. 
  • Like and Follow: Like and follow the UP Open University Official Facebook page by visiting https://www.facebook.com/UPOUOfficial. This step is mandatory to participate in the competition. 
  • Tagging: Tag the UP Open University Official Facebook Page in your Facebook Reel post to ensure that the organizers can view and identify your entry. Make sure to use the hand @UPOUOfficial to tag the institution. 
  • Hashtags: Include hashtags #UPOpenUniversity, #AlwaysReady, and #Reelsilience in the caption of your Facebook Reel to increase its visibility and help categorize your entry. 
  • Registration: To officially register for the competition, fill out this Google Form. All details or information in the form are essential to ensure your official entry to the contest.

Entries will be accepted until 31 July 2023, 12:00 NN (Philippine time).

To guide all contestants, the following criteria will be used for judging: 

  • Relevance to the Theme (40%) – this criterion assesses how well the Facebook Reel aligns with the theme “BIDAng Pilipino: Building a Stronger Filipino Well-Being towards Disaster Resilience.”
  • Reach/Engagement (30%) – the reach and engagement of the Facebook Reel will be evaluated based on the number of shares it receives.
  • Creativity and Uniqueness (30%) – this criterion evaluates the level of creativity and uniqueness demonstrated in the Facebook Reel. 

Winners of the contest will receive a cash prize worth P5000, recognition for their work submitted and chosen, and the opportunity to be featured on UPOU’s social media platforms.
