On 19 July 2023, UP Open University (UPOU) conducted a benchmark meeting, welcoming the delegation from Silliman Online University Learning (SOUL) at the UPOU Headquarters, Los Baños, Laguna.

The benchmark presentation was led by Dr. Myra C. Almodiel, Director of the Office of Public Affairs (OPA). Following the presentation was a Q&A forum with Dr. Almodiel, Dr. Ricardo T. Bagarinao, Director of the Center for Open and Digital Teaching and Learning (CODTL), and Asst. Professor Mari Anjeli Crisanto, Director, Quality Assurance Office (QAO). 

Several significant topics were discussed throughout the meeting, including UPOU’s practices in open and distance eLearning, quality assurance, instructional design, production and delivery, technology handling and management, and micro-credentialing.

The SOUL delegation was led by Dr. Dave E. Marcial, SOUL Director. Other participants included Asst. Prof. Alfie Arcelo, Faculty-in-charge for Information Quality, Assurance and New Programs; Mr. Fredlie Bucog, Faculty-in-charge for Education and Engagement; Mr. Jade Montemayor, Faculty-in-charge for Educational Technology & Development; Mr. Jan Cynth Palama, Faculty/Educational Technologist; Ms. Aurielle Lisa Maypa, Faculty/Educational Technologist; Ms. Cindy Ruth Villariza, Administrative Staff, SOUL; Mr. Britney James Seraspe, User Support, Online Silliman Journal; Mr. Steven Binarao, Staff at Innovation, Creation, and Invention Laboratory.

In line with its mandate under RA 10650 also referred to as the “Open Distance Learning Law” and initiatives to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals no. 4 and 17, UPOU continually bridges different organizations and institutions with relevant mechanisms and supporting services to provide access to quality education.
